Recycling Cosplay. A Walkthrough of the possibilities!

Hey there! Long time, no blog, right?

Tell me about it. I've kind of just abandoned the blog for other creative endeavours.

Put more focus into my comic! Which will be out June this year ;)

 (Shameless Self-Promotion)

This is not all I'm doing. Few videos here and there and writing some scripts.
But how does the line go? "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"
I am doing some costumes here and there in the background of everything for Cons. But not specifically this year or next year or whatever. Just whenever I finish them.

Currently, I am working on a Vault Dweller from Fallout and Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider-man.

(This is all I've really got done!)

I also got side-tracked DIY'ing (now a word, okay?) a Captain America and Iron Man costume for my next video. Which is a Civil War Rap Battle. Which I'm hoping to have out just before the movie. To Capitalise on the popularity and shit ;) So there's that.

But much later, on the downtime between all of this and work. I managed to recycle a cosplay of mines.
That cosplay was Nightwing. Which was my second costume for MCM:Scotland in 2014!

(Me and my good friend, Manvir [Batman] Sahota)

It wasn't my favourite home-made costume. I bought the mask months before starting and made the gauntlets first! The Rest was a rush job. So many things went wrong, but I'm all the wiser because of it.
But while I love the idea of the pic, I nitpick at my own flaws when I see it. Costume brings out my 'love-handles'and what's with my hair? Eugh!

I dyed it and ended up causing some hair to fall out :/ So as a warning...

-BE CAREFUL WHEN USING HAIR DYE-

Next time I'll just choose wigs!

Moving on...

So here's how I turned my shitty craptastic meh-ish Nightwing costume into a fairly decent 'Homemade' Green Arrow costume!

Everything here was already lying in my house! Not a single penny was spent in preparation for this!

So I started off Gathering what I needed..

(Three, count 'em, three items!)

So I gathered the Nightwing mask as it's been sitting gathering dust since that faithful con! The unflattering costume and a green onesie I once got for Christmas, I think that same year, maybe they year before.

(You could say I've been...disarmed?)

So I started by cutting off the sleeves to the onesie. The Problem with the onesie between when I got it and now is that it's a little tighter all around to wear. Because I became a slightly bigger marshmallow.

(I prefer the sleeveless Green Arrow look!)

After removing the arms, the next step was removing the legs. As the legs of the onesie were also a little tighter!

(Who likes short-shorts? I like short-shorts!)

Using a fabric marker (Which I used for my Scarlet Spider-man hoodie)I used a ruler and drew a basic line over where I wanted to cut in the legs...

(Looks cooler already :D)

Leaving a sleeveless, almost legless onesie that now fits better. Still a little close-fitting because remember? I'm a jubbly lil marshmallow of a man! (Keeping it real bruv)

(All around me are familiar Cosplays. Worn out Cosplays)

Next stop was cutting off the legs from my Nightwing costume. Alternatively, you could easily have used Woman's leggings or even bought a morphsuit for the legs. But whatever is easier and/or cheaper for you.

(I'm green! with envy)

Next step was painting the Mask. I had doubts about acrylic on rubber. But it was effortless. A few lairs and it was done...

(It's darker in real life)

While it's not amazingly perfect and not a true representation of Green Arrow's domino mask, it's feasible! Cosplay is not about being 100% accurate. But being accurate is an art form in itself.

(The basic finished result)

You may have noticed the Brown gauntlets. Those were from my Captain America Costume for my video. Felt they complimented the costume a little bit more!
(Same picture! Now with less 'hood')

To finish off, how could the costume be improved? Obviously add a bow and a quiver. Maybe some leg satchels and shoulder pads? Small stuff.
Overall, it's a newly created cosplay that cost £0.00 to make. And how long did it all take? 2 Hours!!!

You can still see my love handles! But I'm less repulsed at myself :P

So why not try it? Why not see what you can create with what's lying around?

If you really want, you could even post your own pics in the comments below!

See ya around <3
